The president of the AIPI, Manuel Villoria, participated in the Elcano 2026 Summer Days, organized by the Elcano Royal Institute in collaboration with the Botín Foundation and which took place on July 8 and 9.

The focus of this edition was to reflect on the global scenario, characterized by “a growing multipolarity without multilateralism, and the use of force and commercial coercion as political instruments”, and in which “the strategic rivalry between the United States and China for technological hegemony crosses our societies, while national electoral events such as those of Hungary and the United States have a direct impact on the future of the European project or on American foreign policy”.

Questions were therefore raised about the European Union's ability to promote a global order aligned with its values and interests and to guarantee a framework of well-being, prosperity and freedoms for its citizens.

In this context, the President of the AIPI participated in a panel discussion on “Democracies under pressure: affordability crisis, social gap and political disaffection”.
