The president of the AIPI participates in a conference organized by the OSCE and the Portuguese MENAC to analyze the relationship between the anti-corruption authorities and the parliaments

Manuel Villoria shared the AIPI experience at a conference entitled “Closing the Accountability Gap: Parliaments, Anti-Corruption Institutions and the Future of Supervision in Europe” held in Lisbon.
The Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), in collaboration with the Portuguese National Anti-Corruption Mechanism (MENAC), organized a workshop in Lisbon in which it brought together Portuguese oversight bodies, European anti-corruption institutions and leading academic experts.
The event examined the relationship between parliaments and independent anti-corruption institutions as a cornerstone of effective democratic oversight – building on the comparative experience of Portugal, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Montenegro, Slovenia, Spain and Ukraine – and will explore concrete opportunities to strengthen that relationship.
On behalf of Spain, the President of the AIPI, Manuel Villoria, attended the session on “Perspectives in the OSCE region” on European lessons and good practices, sharing a table with representatives of France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Montenegro, Slovenia and Ukraine. Models of interaction between parliaments and anti-corruption agencies and the definition of their competences, reporting obligations to parliaments, and budgetary oversight of such agencies were among the topics covered.
